Having both ColdFusion-based CMS Intranet sites and hundreds of Windows SharePoint Services sites, the CIO initiated this project to select and implement an enterprise-wide collaboration solution.

Portal Selection:

Led requirements gathering workshop to select and recommend a portal collaboration solution. Met with key business users, coordinated requirements gathering, collaborated to obtain step-by-step buy in.
Analyzed information architecture, developed Portal Requirements document, recommended solution to business users, produced solution documentation, diagrams, and PowerPoint presentations.
Reported to management throughout requirements gathering process, and presented MOSS 2007as the recommended solution. Answered questions, resolved issues, obtained consent and resources needed to move forward.

Portal Governance:

Led portal governance requirements gathering workshop to determine site hierarchy and structural design, naming and labeling conventions, global navigation, search, site definitions, security, and customization requirements.
Analyzed portal governance requirements and developed a governance plan defining roles and responsibilities within Strategy, Operations, Support, Development, and MVP Teams. Developed documentation, including governance plan, policies and procedures, roles and responsibilities, information architecture, global site navigation, and search strategy.

Portal Capacity Planning:

Led a capacity planning requirements gathering workshop. Met with IT server management and account management groups, and key business users to forecast portal capacity requirements.

Logical URL redirects non-CAL holders to an error page; allows Enterprise CAL holders access to all sites; prevents Standard CAL holders from accessing sites where Enterprise features are deployed; provides for tracking and re-assigning retired CALs.

SharePoint Solution for Large Graphic Files:
Allows managing files that exceed SharePoint file size limits. Multi-gigabyte graphic files used for seasonal store décor and point-of-sale materials are stored in an FTP location. A thumbnail image is uploaded to a Picture Library in SharePoint. Meta data for the image is extracted from the filename, based on a meaningful yet cryptic file naming convention used by the Graphics department. The solution locates the master file and adds a hyperlink to large file. Meta data is indexed by SharePoint Enterprise Search, making the file easily findable using its Meta data facets. The user can then download the file from the ftp server through his browser by clicking a link.

Custom list for regular expressions used to decrypt file names and create human readable Meta data
Event handlers to extract human-readable Meta data from cryptic name of uploaded files and tag the FTP location of the master file.
